The Next Best Thing Challenge: Rough Diamond

1 Aug

I was tagged by Author Jessica Subject to do The Next Best Thing Challenge. Oh, Jessica, so much fun! Thank you!!

Here’s the idea:

Answer the 10 questions below

Spread the fun and tag 5 awesome people to participate!

1. What is the title of your book / WIP?
ROUGH DIAMOND, coming very soon from Decadent Publishing’s Western Escape!

2. Where did the idea of this book come from?
My editor on my previous release, TEACH ME, suggested I write for Western Escape, and after a little think, I pitched the idea of a fancy Englishman coming to Freewill, Wyoming, and bedeviling a lady saloon owner. The rest is history!

3. What genre would your book fall under?
Historical Western Erotic Romance. So, you know, a bit of everything. I do love to mash those genres.

4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Hmm. Well, I pictured Iwan Rheon when describing my hero, Rupert. I reckon he could do a bang up job!

With Alice, I came across a nifty photo on the net, but the lady pictured isn’t an actress so I’ll have to put my thinking cap on…Ohhh! Emilia Clarke! She’d be pretty much perfect! And, as an added bonus, I have an oblique mention of Game of Thrones. Huzzah!

5. What is the one sentence synopsis of your book?
A lady saloon owner isn’t fooled when a seemingly empty-headed Englishman wants to buy her saloon – she can see the man beneath, and she finds herself foolishly intrigued…

6. Is your book published or represented?
ROUGH DIAMOND will be published very soon by Decadent Publishing as part of their Western Escape line. Huzzah!

7. How long did it take you to write it?
Oh god, for some reason, this took F O R E V E R. Six months, peeps. Ugh. Still, I’m rather pleased with the result, so yay for those six months of toil ;p

8. What other books in your genre would you compare it to?
Oh man, I don’t know…my other ones? I guess they’re the same, if only because I wrote them. I say this because they vary wildly in time period – Ancient Rome, Early Victorian London, American West…

9. Which authors inspired you to write this book?
I wasn’t inspired by any particular author, per se, but Joss Whedon is always my go to when I’m stuck. Although, he does make me curse with how SUPER UBER TALENTED HE IS. Seriously, peeps. Sometimes, it makes me cry.

10. Tell us anything else that might pique our interest in your book.
Every purchase comes with a free puppy*!

And now, the five talented authors I’m tagging to share the fun.

Lucy Clark
Tamara Gill
Victoria Blisse
Barbara Sheridan
Lucy Felthouse

Hope you peeps enjoyed!

xx

*Puppy may be imaginary. Just as good as the real thing, honest ;p

Wait for it…

The trumpets are just warming up…

Hang on. Where are the trumpeteers? Smoke-o? They’re not allowed on a smoke-o. Also, that stuff is bad for you. GOVERNMENT ADS TELL ME THIS, THEREFORE IT MUST BE TRUE

Oh. They’re back. Right, trumpets in three…two…one…

DA DA DA DAAAAAAAHH!

My Western Romance

ROUGH DIAMOND

has been accepted for publication by Decadent Publishing!

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!

Part of Decadent Publishing‘s Western Escape, ROUGH DIAMOND tells the tale of Alice Reynolds, a lady saloon owner, and Rupert Llewellyn, a seemingly empty-headed Englishman. Sparks fly when Rupert proposes he purchase Alice’s saloon, but is there a nefarious purpose to his request?

More deets as they arrive, peeps!

I’m so excited by this! I’ll have THREE published books and ONE short story very soon.
THIS CAPER IS GOING GANGBUSTERS!

xx
(and excited squeal!)

Six Sentence Sunday – Silk pt 6

24 Jun

UPDATED: Six Sentence Sunday is here! Thanks to the lovely Six Sentence Sunday people, and all those who visit and comment.

First up, sorry for the break in transmission, peeps, I don’t know where my brain was at. The lure of those cocktails must have been strong. However, now I’m back and here’s six sentences from Silk!

Slowly, hesitantly, his lips met hers, brushed once, twice.

Pleasure rushed through her, sharp and bright. Never had it been like this. All the boys she’d kissed, the men she’d teased, none had made her feel as she did now. Emotion swelled, until it felt her heart was too large for her chest and would encompass all of her, occupy her totally with this feeling for him. For Thomas.

Thanks, peeps! I promise next week I’ll be on the ball :D

Hi peeps!

Well, I left the house without completing my Six Sentence Sunday post because I’m a silly duffer. I will update with my six sentences asap!

In the mean time, here’s a picture of the cabaret show and cocktails I’m neglecting you all for:

Six Sentence Sunday is upon us once more! Thanks, as always to the lovely peeps at Six Sentence Sunday for this awesome initiative. Thanks also to all of you who comment, it’s such a pleasure to read your words :D

Some sad news first, the lovely peeps at Six Sentence Sunday have decided to call it a day. The last official Six Sentence Sunday will be 27 January 2013, so, that’s plenty of time for us to get used to the idea that after that date, there will be no official Six Sentence Sunday. I would like to extend a big thank you to the all the Six Sentence Sunday peeps. It has and continues to be a wonderful initiative, and I’m very proud to have been a part of it.

Now, back to Silk. Thomas and  Nicola are studying one of Thomas’s defence cases together…

She turned her gaze from the papers before her to the man beside her.

Thomas looked at her, his thumb pressed against a smile.

Brows drawing together, she said, “Was there something, Thomas?”

Removing his thumb from his lips left only his smile. “You’re rather adorable when you concentrate.”

Heat flared in her cheeks and, quickly, she looked down at the paper.

Before we get to the six sentences, I’m currently part of the Shameless Summer Giveaway Hop, and am giving away a copy of ENSLAVED, as well as a signed TEACH ME postcard and a TEACH ME magnet.
Comment for your chance to win!

Now, continuing on with Silk, Thomas and  Nicola have entered the shenanigan stage…

Grabbing her upper arms, he hauled her to him. And then, he kissed her.

Stunned, she stood stock still as his lips brushed hers, light and sweet. Gently, his tongue traced the seam of her mouth, and with that small touch, fire swept through her. Tangling her fingers in the soft strands of his hair, she pulled him closer. Then, she kissed him back.

And it’s another Six Sentence Sunday! Thanks, as always to the lovely peeps at Six Sentence Sunday for this awesome initiative.

Continuing on with Silk once again, Thomas and  Nicola are not quite up to shenanigan stage just yet…

She sighed. “This again, Thomas?”

“We are no longer children talking over a fence, Lady Nicola. You are who you are and I— ” He resisted the urge to run his hand through his hair. This morning he’d spent an hour taming the stupid curls, and he would not wreck his efforts because Lady Nicola Fitzgibbons had chosen to return to his life.

Oh, poor Thomas. Methinks you do protest a tad too much.

Six Sentence Sunday – Silk pt 2

27 May

Six Sentence Sunday! Huzzah! Thanks, as always to the lovely peeps at Six Sentence Sunday for this awesome initiative.

Continuing on with Silk, we find Thomas and his scandalous lady, Nicola, mere moments after we left them…

“Welcome home, Nic.” And he hugged her.

Dear God, she felt good. Only a head shorter than him, she smelled of violets or lavender or some other water ladies liked to douse themselves in. He allowed himself ten seconds to hold her, to absorb the feel of her into himself, and then he stepped back. “You should not be here.”

Well, what exciting things are in store for Thomas and Nicola? Hopefully shenanigans. Shenanigans are always fun :D

Six Sentence Sunday – Silk pt 1

20 May

Six Sentence Sunday is here once more! Thanks, as always to the lovely peeps at Six Sentence Sunday for this awesome initiative.

We take a break from Rough Diamond this week to feature another work in progress. Tentatively titled Silk*, this is the tale of a straight-laced English barrister who just wants to be an upstanding Member of Parliament. Unfortunately, the return of a childhood friend, a seemingly frivilous lady, has him entertaining all manner of thoughts that should never cross his mind…

“Do you know what I’m hearing, Thomas? I’m hearing a vast amount of what I should not be doing, when you’ve not even greeted me properly. Why, you’ve yet to kiss my hand, or perhaps give me a h-hug.”

Helpless, he stared at her. How did she do it? She’d been here less than five minutes, and already she had drawn him back in.

*This will definately change. At the moment, not too sure what the title will be. It will come to me, though, never fear!

Six Sentence Sunday – Rough Diamond pt 5

13 May

Six Sentence Sunday is here! Yay! I do love the six sentences that abound every Sunday, and as always, thanks to the lovely peeps at Six Sentence Sunday for this awesome initiative.

Well, it’s Mothers’ Day here in Oz, so I’d like to wish my mum a very happy Mothers’ Day. Thanks for all you do, the way you smile and nod when I harp on incessantly about this writing caper (and things like how awesome The Avengers is…seriously, so awesome! Check it out, peeps! NOW!!!), and the fact you gave birth to me. That last one was pretty super fantastic :D

So, HAPPY MOTHERS’ DAY, MUM!!!!

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming. Here’s this week’s six sentences, again from Rough Diamond. Enjoy!

She shouldn’t feel disappointment. It was a useless emotion, and besides which, he was determined to be thought the fool for reasons of his own. She had no cause to be…to be hurt that he apparently wanted her to think the same as all the rest. Even if they had just shared a kiss that had knocked socks, stockings – and if it had continued a minute or so more – probably her drawers.

Squaring her shoulders, she smiled coolly. “Don’t trouble yourself, Mr Llewellyn, we’ll pretend it never happened, and all will be as before.”

Six Sentence Sunday – Rough Diamond pt 4

6 May

Six Sentence Sunday is here again! As always, thanks to the lovely peeps at Six Sentence Sunday for this awesome initiative.

It’s been a very busy weekend for me. Apparently, EVERYONE I KNOW (including myself) decided to be born in May, and thus I have about a billion birthdays this month. This weekend, a lazy four. Mercy me.

Anyhoo, here’s the lovely six sentences, again from Rough Diamond. Enjoy!

Still captivated by the muscle so wonderfully displayed for her, she smiled slowly. Him sitting in that chair gave her all sorts of ideas.

“Mrs Reynolds, I should love to detail the benefits of my bid for your property, if you would be so kind as to oblige me?”

Raising her gaze, she took in the heightened colour on his cheeks, the rapid expansion of his chest as he took in breath. Both spoke of his desire, along with the noticeable hardness between his thighs. “Certainly, Mr Llewellyn. I’m sure you can be very persuasive when you set your mind to it.”
