Sent into the human realm to retrieve prodigal princess, Zena Night, Bhyrne Raines is shocked and unprepared for his carnal reaction to the sexy succubus. In service to the succubus queen, the rugged enforcer must stifle the instant passion exploding within him. Fulfilling his royal duty doesn’t allow for quickie dalliances. His biological clock is ticking, and he begins to enter breedspawn, an intense and unstoppable frenzy of mating all fire-demon males must endure. But the more he wants to avoid Zena, the more he’s drawn to her.

Reluctant to give up her carefree life of partying among the mortals when the hot-as-sin Bhyrne comes to fetch her for the queen, Zena uses her succubus wiles to entice him, or at least delay the inevitable trip to the royal court. Once in the demon stronghold, hidden deep within the Catskill mountains, she learns the reason for the summons: she must choose a consort within two days.

Zena needs a mate. Bhyrne needs to mate. With time running out for both of them, they each turn to 1Night Stand. With time running out, can Madame Eve come to the rescue?

~Excerpt~

Holy freeze gun, Batman. The words died before she managed to expose them to air. Her mouth snapped shut.

One of the Queen’s guards stood before her, huge and tall, nearly twice the size of most of the other males in the joint, a hella hunka supernatural male. Clearly not human, although Hugo Boss’d to his Adam’s apple in an apparent bid to fit in among the humans trolling for hot sex, illicit drugs, watered-down booze and loud music. Beneath the fabric of the unstructured designer suit, the toned muscles of a demonic warrior rolled like tidal waves. Even without the small lapel pin the uninformed might mistake for the The Rolling Stones’ logo, she’d recognize him for a captain of the guard. Maybe the Queen’s own Captain.

Hellfire and cotton candy. Trouble. T-R-O-U-B-L-E.

But, by the goddess, whattahottie! Despite her certainty that his presence in the club corridor boded ill for her, the force of her sudden hunger shook her.

Like lightning.

Thunder.

A desperate bolt out of the blue.

Instant connection to him on the paranormal plane, as if he’d wrapped her aura in gold chains and tugged her to him. But did that fast lane to heaven run one way or two?

A grim expression straightened the lines of what otherwise might have been a generous, sensuous mouth. A military buzz cut had weed-whacked hair the color of iron. And it didn’t stop there. Without doubt, metal fortified every single cell in the massive male’s body, pure titanium flowing in his veins. The stern planes and angles of a hard-edged, swoon-worthy face set grimly as cement. Though he lounged in the hallway like any Archie or Jughead waiting in line to discharge his rented beer in a urinal, he exuded authority, his carriage and bearing such that he made the others look like a pack of Twizzlers. Oh. Yeah. More than a mere guardsman, she guessed. An enforcer.

Ruh-roh.

About Taryn

Taryn is an Olympic caliber athlete egg roller and spends a great deal of her time petitioning the U.S.O.C. to introduce a fantail shrimp competition. At this moment, she is busy sweeping up the loose masala chai tea leaves she spilled all over the kitchen floor. (Probably because she needs COFFEE.) Wait. Is that something…sparkly?

Author Interview: Olivia Starke

Peeps, please join me in welcoming Olivia Starke to the blog. Olivia is a fellow Decadent author and has the EXTREME GOOD TASTE to be obsessed with Steven Moffat. A lass after my own heart, that’s for sure!

So, Olivia, please take it away!

Olivia Starke Dreaming in Blue Decadent Publishing 1NS

Cassandra Dean: Congratulations on the release of DREAMING IN BLUE! Would you tell us a little about it?

Olivia Starke: DREAMING IN BLUE is my second addition to Decadent Publishing’s popular 1Night Stand series. I wanted to make my heroine unique in that she faces life in a different way than many people. She’s been blind since childhood, but it hasn’t slowed her down. She’s accomplished, and remains positive despite her inability to see. I wanted readers to see a strong woman who let nothing get in the way of her life’s goals.

My hero suffered heartbreaking loss after a house fire. He’s scarred both physically and emotionally, and he’s carried it too long. When he’s paired with Sierra, he doesn’t know what to expect. If she’ll react negatively to his past and how he now looks because of it.

It may seem cliché to pair a blind woman with a scarred hero, but there’s an unexpected twist in there that Madame Evangeline, owner of 1Night Stand, had planned all along 😉

CD: What inspired you to write DREAMING IN BLUE?

OS: Both the book and the movie Patch of Blue. A wonderful story of a blind white girl who falls in love with a black man in the 60s, I encourage everyone to at least watch the movie starring Sidney Poitier and Shelly Winters. Their story is pretty heartbreaking, and I wanted write one where my heroine has a happy ending. My storyline is very different, but the struggle remains for my heroine and hero to find their happily ever after.

CD: You write super hot paranormal romance. How do you go about writing in this genre?

OS: Though DREAMING IN BLUE doesn’t have the paranormal element, I did work in a big surprise. Perhaps it’s got a little magic after all, that’s what Madame Evangeline is all about 😉 But most my work is paranormal, because I love the world building behind it. You aren’t constrained by day to day life and the laws governing it. I can be who I want to be, and write whatever my wacky mind can conceive. I’ve always had an active imagination, my imaginary friends when I was a kid were a Sabertooth Tiger and a big black horse. They followed me every morning to school, running alongside the bus, then back home in the afternoon.

In Junior High I wrote a romance about a Pegasus and Unicorn. Falling into the supernatural realm of romance came naturally.

CD: What did you find easiest/most difficult about writing paranormal romance?

OS: I have an analytical mind, so if my vampires can’t spend much time in sunlight, I have to know the science of why. Then explain it so readers will understand. I can’t just throw it out there and expect others to suspend belief on my say so. But this is part of the joy for me, too. Letting my geek flag fly. I’ve got a current series contracted through Beachwalk Press titled Project Terminal. Lots of fun with the undead and deadly viruses, and letting my science geek out to play.

CD: Do you have plans to write a book in any other another genre?

OS: I do write Contemporary, and have plans for more. I have a Young Adult 3 book series in the works, but don’t expect it finished any time soon. It’s a huge project with a LOT of world building needed. A bit Steampunk, sci-fi, and contemporary. Oi, lots going on.

CD: What is your writing process?

OS: Usually ten to twelve hour stretches with some food in between. I do this for days at a time until my Writing Drones scream for mercy. My Muse is a hard mistress.

CD: What do you believe to be the most important factor in portraying a believable romantic relationship?

OS: You have to have the ups and downs in real life relationships. And you have to have the hero and heroine’s voices separate, when I’m reading I want to know the POV I’m in right off the bat. This is my current challenge, to make unique voices within my characters.

CD: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

OS: Never settle for less than you deserve. It’s my mantra now, and what got me out of my last dead in job.

CD: What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received?

OS: Never stop writing. Write, write, write. And your work is usually worse in your own eyes than it is in another’s, so have confidence in yourself.

CD: Who is your greatest writing influence?

OS: My critique buddies (shout out to Stephanie Beck!) they keep me honest and pushing for more in my work.

CD: What do you enjoy reading?

OS: I love reading non-fiction plus paranormal and Regency romance. And the classics!

CD: What’s your favourite television show? Favourite movie?

OS: OH GOD don’t get me started on my Fangirl fixations! Most favorite show hands down DOCTOR WHO. I live for the show and how MOFFAT!!! will emotionally manipulate us with it. I’m in love with Matt Smith, the actor who plays the current Doctor. All men are compared to the tall, gangly British actor with unconventional looks.

I also fangirl over Supernatural, love me some Winchesters and Castiel 😉 I also got a fan group started on Facebook for the SyFy show Lost Girl called Lost Girl Fangroup (original I know, but I’m lousy with titles :p) Look it up if you’d like added.

Movies wise, I’m a mess. I love Jurassic Park II (don’t judge the science geek!) Hidalgo, and Labrynth.

CD: If you were stranded in middle of a Paranormal event (with romantic undertones, of course!), what three things would you wish were with you?

OS: Well if the movies have taught me anything, a good pair of running shoes, a flashlight with fresh batteries, and a cellphone with GPS.

CD: Where can readers find you?

OS: My website, Facebook and Twitter

Olivia Starke Dreaming in Blue Decadent Publishing 1NS

Blind since childhood, Sierra is satisfied with her success as a relationship therapist. Contacting 1Night Stand is an outlet for her physical needs, or so she tells herself. When she meets Daniel, the chemistry is definitely there, but a single parent with a child has the terrifying potential to disrupt her orderly life.

After losing his wife in a fire three years before that left him terribly scarred, Daniel has focused on raising his young daughter and little else. Meeting Sierra through 1Night Stand is a way to step back into the world. And he definitely can’t deny the instant attraction.

Madame Evangeline has a sweet surprise for them as they discover one another…

~ Excerpt ~

“So tell me, what do you see outside?” A fresh rush of desire burned through her. She wanted to extend this moment, the wait its own form of foreplay.

“The lake, with some geese and ducks.”

“You see more than that.”

“Hmm, the moon is out, full and silver. The water reflects it, and the birds swimming on the lake look almost ghostly. Dark trees outline the bank to the north.”

He gently tugged her against his solid body. His lips brushed the outer rim of her ear. “A mated pair of white swans swims close by.”

Hot breath fanned her earlobe and she melted into his arms. A hand stroked down, settling against her lower back. She tipped her head up, anticipating the pressure of his lips against hers. His knuckle nudged beneath her chin.

He removed her sunglasses. “I want to see your brown eyes.”

Her breathing grew shallow, making her lightheaded.

“You’re so beautiful, sweetheart.”

His mouth touched hers and the world fell away.

Guest Post: Sabrina Sol turns dreams into reality

Cassandra Dean:Hey peeps!

Turning dreams into reality

Sabrina Sol: Thanks Cassandra for inviting me here today!

I’m so excited to talk about my upcoming release with Decadent Publishing. It’s called REUNITED and it’s my first published book.

REUNITED is basically about taking a chance in order to make a dream come true. So it’s fitting then that it’s my first.

I’ve always wanted to write a book. Well, specifically, I’ve always wanted to write a bestselling book. Ha!

I remember being pretty much the only kid in class to be excited when the teacher made us write a story using our spelling or vocabulary words for the week. My love for writing continued through high school and college and eventually I even made a living doing it. But while being a newspaper reporter allowed me to write every day, I wasn’t writing MY stories. Then circumstances changed and I moved into public relations. Again, I wrote pretty much every day, but there was a limit on how creative I could be with press releases.

It wasn’t until about two years ago that I decided to finally listen to the voices in my head. I announced to my husband that I was going to write a book and proceeded to start my first novel. Thousands of words later, it’s still not finished. But along the way, I managed to also write REUNITED.

It’s hard to explain the feelings overwhelming me as my release day gets closer. Satisfaction? Pride? Pure joy?

Probably all of the above. After all, how many chances do you get in a lifetime to make a dream come true?

For Magdelena Cruz, the main character in REUNITED, the answer is two. The first time didn’t work out, so she engineers a second chance.

Sabrina Sol Reunited Decadent Publishing 1NS 1 Night Stand Series

What would you do if you had the chance to sleep with your unrequited high school crush?

If you’re former geek Magdelena Cruz, you’d do him in a heartbeat. But you’d lie about your true identity first and hope your new sexy persona is enough to create a night neither of you will forget.

Workaholic assistant DA Will Hudson doesn’t have time for a love life. Expecting to scratch an itch with a willing stranger, he signs up for Madame Evangeline’s 1Night Stand experience. He has no idea that his date is no stranger.

A reunion between two classmates will be hotter than the scorching Las Vegas sun. But will the heat be enough to spark something deeper, or will they both end up getting burned by Magdelena’s charade?

~Excerpt~

Standing in front of the door to the suite, she let the magnitude of the moment sink in. All logic and practicality fled. She’d left both back at home with her pocket protector and sensible shoes. The situation called for her to be impulsive, daring and confident.

If you are, then he will finally be yours….

She smoothed her dress, adjusted her bra, and blew into her hand for a breath check. Satisfied, she slid her key card into the slot and pushed the door open.

A blaring TV welcomed her. Not that she expected a violin serenade, but she hadn’t planned on competing with a basketball game for her date’s attention. She frowned.

“Pass the ball, you idiot!” Will shouted.

Tingling from head to toe at the sound of his voice, she released a slow breath.

It’s now or never, Magdelena.

“Hello?” she called.

The TV turned off instantly. A second later, he walked into her view.

Her throat tightened.

The years had been good to him. No, they’d been great to him. Although she’d seen pictures on the alumni website, they didn’t do him justice. Every visible inch of his body appeared chiseled from stone. A dark gray shirt and black slacks perfectly accentuated every muscle. He wore his dark hair shorter than she’d seen in the photos, but his blue eyes were more piercing than ever. He looked her over, settling on her cleavage and her nipples that had come to attention the minute she saw him. Then he raised his eyes to meet hers.

“Hello, Elena.” His deep voice lit her soul on fire.

He doesn’t recognize me. This plan might work after all.

Interview and Giveaway: Jessica E Subject [CONTEST]

Hey peeps!

Please join me in welcoming Jessica E. Subject to the blog today! Jessica is a fellow Decadent author, and her latest book, THE POWER OF THREE, was released 20 July. Have you bought your copy yet? Need swaying? Well, read on…and there is a contest, too. A CONTEST. THAT’s LIKE SUPER AWESOME WOW.

However, let us first chat with Jessica!

Cassandra Dean: Congratulations on your new release, THE POWER OF THREE! Would you tell us about it?
Jessica E. Subject: Thank you so much for inviting me to your blog, Cassandra! It’s such a pleasure to be here. 😀 THE POWER OF THREE is a paranormal erotica short story that involves Oscar, whose spirit is trapped inside a selection of stone gargoyles and the couple he’s been watching for over a year. It’s very hot and steamy.

CD:What inspired you to write THE POWER OF THREE?
JES: Honestly, it came out of a conversation between me and a good friend. I wrote the original story as a joke. When I learned of Decadent’s new erotica line, The Edge, I thought the story would be a perfect fit. But before I submitted it, THE POWER OF THREE went through several rounds of revisions, with help from one of my critique partners.

CD: What is it that you love about writing Sci-Fi romance? Also, your newest release, THE POWER OF THREE, is a paranormal. Do you have plans to write more stories in this or in other sub-genres?
JES: Sci-Fi Romance is my outlet for my creativity. I’ve always been one to stare up at the stars, and wonder what else is out there. As for writing more paranormal, if the inspiration hits, I write the story. I may say “hold on” to a muse, but I won’t tell them “no.” Besides more Sci-Fi Romance, I also plan to write some more Contemporary Romance. My characters are all a little different though, because I believe everyone in the universe deserves a happily ever after…

CD: Jessica, you write for Decadent Publishing’s 1 Night Stand series, Decadent Publishing’s The Edge Series and Decadent Publishing’s Elatia series. What drew you to these different series? Could you explain a little about writing for each?
JES: Yes, I do write for these three lines, as well as having two series of my own, and another in development. My first 1Night Stand story, Celestial Seduction, was the first story I’d ever submitted. I was always too scared to submit anything, always afraid of rejection, even though that’s a big part of this industry. I’d been working on another story when my friend, Rebecca Royce, told me about this new line at Decadent. Her story, One Night With A Wolf, had just been contracted, and she suggested I look into the line, and maybe add my Sci-Fi twist to it. I mulled over it for a few days, wanted to finish my current project at that time, but when the story idea came, I had to write it. And then I just became addicted to the line, having to tell everyone else’s stories who were involved in Celestial Seduction. Each story in the 1NS line brings together a couple, sometimes more, for one night where all of their fantasies can come true. But the matchmaker, Madame Evangeline, has a tendency to give the people involved more than they were hoping for. These stories are short, can include any and every sub-genre of romance, and always end with a happily-ever-after, or at least a happily-for-now.

With the new Sci-Fi Romance line, Elatia, I was invited by Decadent Publishing to be one of the launch authors. Not only was it an excellent opportunity for me, but it’s very exciting to have a line devoted to Sci-Fi Romance. Each story takes place (though not exclusively), on the planet Elatia, also known as the pleasure planet, where the trained and highly revered Adamos help to fulfill the sexual desires of residents of the planet, and the many visitors. All the launch authors worked together to create the “Elatia Bible” and with that as our only limitation, we were free to write whatever romance story we wanted. My story, An Unexpected Return, is a tale of forbidden love. It is important to note, the stories in this line are all EROTIC Sci-Fi Romance.

THE POWER OF THREE is my first release with The Edge line, though I’ve contracted a second called Crash Landing, and have another one in progress. These stories are shorter than the 1Night Stand line, and much hotter. These stories focus little on the back story of the characters and more on their encounter. They don’t necessarily have a happily-ever-after, but the characters are very satisfied by the end. Once again, they can include any sub-genre of romance.

CD: What is your writing process?
JES: I usually brainstorm a story for a few days before starting to write it. I may jot some notes down, or just keep them in my head. Then I write the first draft. Once I’ve finished and revised it a bit, I’ll send it to my critique partners. If it’s a novel, I may send it to them a couple chapters at a time. With their feedback, I’ll revise a couple more times, maybe send out for a beta read, and then submit. I try to write every day, though with the kids off school now, that’s not always possible. I’m looking forward to more writing time come September.

CD: What do you believe to be the most important factor in portraying a believable romantic relationship?
JES: I think it’s important to have vulnerable characters. Even alpha heroes and heroines have weaknesses. If they seem too perfect, the story is not believable.

CD: Some of your books feature ménage relationships. I find it hard to balance only two romantic partners! How do you create such amazingly awesome threesomes?
JES: I think the trick is to give them each a place in the relationship. Everyone has a different personality, and it’s important to recognize that in every interaction.

CD: Your love scenes are so very hot! How do you craft such steamy erotic scenes?
JES: Thank you! *grins* It takes a lot of practice and many revisions to get them just right. When writing them, I simply try to imagine myself in the character’s situation.

CD: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
JES: My mom gave me a lot of great advice growing up. She told me never to judge anyone without getting to know them first, and she recited Thumper’s famous line, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” The second is hard sometimes, but I try to live by it. And I’m trying to teach my own children the same things.

CD: What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received?
JES: Fantasy author, Lorna Suzuki told me to join a critique group when I was still in the early stages of writing.

CD: Who is your greatest writing influence?
JES: I don’t think I can narrow it down to one author. I’ve gone through many books by Judy Blume, Ann M. Martin, Francine Pascal, and Nora Roberts. I guess they, along with many other authors have influenced my writing.

CD: What do you enjoy reading?
JES: I read a lot of romance and erotic romance in most subgenres. I also read mystery/suspense, fantasy, and young adult.

CD: What’s your favourite television show? Favourite movie?
JES: For television, I don’t miss Castle or America’s Funniest Home Videos. I often watch reruns of both. For movies, it’s a tie between Avatar and Star Trek(2009).

CD: If you had to choose only three things to take with you on a long-range mission to seek life in another galaxy, what would they be?
JES: Food and water, of course, and my tablet. I can read, write and listen to music on it even without Wi-Fi. If it’s going to be a long mission, I’d need something to occupy my time. But then again, I guess it depends on who’s on the mission with me. *grins*

An excerpt!

“I’m from Wigbay,” [Oscar] stated. “I’m not sure how to explain where that is except to say, it’s in another dimension. I was sent here, trapped as a spirit inside your gargoyle statues when I refused to take on another female lover.”

On the day he’d been sucked away from his life partners, Catalis had arrived at his shared home, shouting curses and calling him out for not taking her as his mate. Against their advice, he left Lianna and Lewis on the love platform, anxious to dispose of their unwelcome visitor. But she had other ideas.

When he met her outdoors, she waved her arms in wide circles, uttering an ancient chant. Her malicious words drew the air around them into a swirling mass. Without the combined power of his mates, he was weak to stop her. Catalis used an energy field to bind him then tossed him into the center of the twister. Lianna and Lewis raced out the door and launched themselves onto the sorceress, but they were too late.

“You were in our statues?”

Oscar blinked hard, returning his attention to his hosts.

Bo’s eyes grew wide, his face a mess of contradictory emotions.

“Another lover?” Delayna asked.

“I’ve been able to move amongst the gargoyles you own for the past year. It feels like forever since I’ve seen Lianna and Lewis—my mates, my lovers.” A wave of sorrow threatened to wash over him, but one glimpse of the sparkle in her eyes brought back his immediate need.

“You’ve been spying on us for a year?” Bo turned to his wife. “I don’t believe this shit about being trapped, but there could be hidden cameras in your statues. I swear, Delayna. I’m throwing every single one of them away as soon as we get this whackjob out of the house.”

“Please, Bo.” She whispered something in his ear and he smiled until he caught Oscar looking at him.

Bo stood up, letting the pillow fall to the floor. “Like what you see?”

Jessica Subject started writing to encourage her daughter to read. Now she writes to keep herself grounded. Although she reads many genres, she enjoys writing Science Fiction Romance the most and believes everyone in the universe deserves a happily ever after. She lives Southwestern Ontario, Canada with her husband and two kids and loves to hear from anyone who has enjoyed her stories.
