Six Sentence Sunday – Rough Diamond, the release edition! #sixsunday

After a bit of a break, I’m back with Six Sentence Sunday , and am super excited because ROUGH DIAMOND is now available!

In honour of this awesomeness, here’s six sentences from ROUGH DIAMOND. Thanks, as always, to the peeps behind this wonderful initiative, and to all the lovely people who comment on my sentences 😀

The man who wanted to buy her saloon occupied a table all to himself, watching the roulette wheel as he toyed with the whiskey before him. Though the table regularly sat four, none had joined him, and it looked as if none would. He seemed to suffer no injury from their disinterest, merely continuing to observe the roulette wheel, the lamp set upon his table lighting a foolish grin on his face.

Leaning on the balcony’s wooden balustrade, Alice watched him. For over half an hour, Llewellyn had sat at his table and played with his whiskey, raising it to his lips every so often but not drinking a drop. Instead, his avid gaze took in the activity surrounding him, and his eyes sharpened every now and then as if he were noting something in that empty head of his.

Rough Diamond by Cassandra Dean Western Escape Decadent Publishing

Owner of the Diamond Saloon and Theater, Alice Reynolds is astounded when a fancy Englishman offers to buy her saloon. She won’t be selling her saloon to anyone, let alone a man with a pretty, empty-headed grin…but then, she reckons that grin just might be a lie, and a man of intelligence and cunning resides beneath.

Rupert Llewellyn has another purpose for offering to buy the pretty widow’s saloon—the coal buried deep in land she owns. However, he never banked on her knowing eyes making him weak at the knees, or how his deception would burn upon his soul.

Each determined to outwit the other, they tantalize and tease until passion explodes. But can their desire bridge the lies told and trust broken?

Six Sentence Sunday – WTF 2: The Reckoning #sixsunday

Six Sentence Sunday is here again, peeps! As always, a big thank you to the peeps behind this wonderful initiative, and to all the lovely people who comment on my sentences 😀

So this week, it’s WTF 2: The Reckoning! Awesome title, hey?

A follow up to ROUGH DIAMOND, WTF 2: The Reckoning features secondary characters Pearl (Red) and Ethan. Hope you enjoy!

Ethan strode into the saloon and threw his hat on the counter. “Red, put me out of my misery, make an honest man of me, and marry me.”

Pearl looked at his hat, and then at him. “Whiskey?”

Exhaling, he cast his gaze to the heavens. “I thought that one would work…Ah well, maybe tomorrow.”

…Man, I hope I get to keep that title. Probably not, though. Some people have no taste *sniff*

Because I’m on an editing roll, again another six from ROUGH DIAMOND! I hope you enjoy 😀

Rocking back on her heels, Alice swept her tongue over her lips to taste him. A low groan drew her attention, and she found Llewellyn watching her, eyes hot as he stared at her mouth. Blood thrumming, she licked her lips again. His expression turned pained, his hands clenching at his sides.

In an explosion of motion, she pulled him to her even as he tugged her to him. Their mouths collided, and the taste of him exploded in her mouth, better than any whiskey she’d ever savored.

Six Sentence Sunday is here again, peeps! As always, a big thank you to the peeps behind this wonderful initiative, and to all the lovely people who comment on my sentences 😀

So, because I’m editing ROUGH DIAMOND, I thought I might do a little snippet from that. Actually, the below is the first six sentences of the story! I hope you enjoy 😀

A knock sounded at the closed door, a brief hesitation followed by two firmer knocks, and finally a group of three that seemed more flourish than a signal of a man’s presence.

Regarding the door, Alice didn’t immediately rise to answer the summons. A lot could be learned from a man’s knock, and even more from his reaction to waiting a spell. From this particular man, she could tell he was unsure of his welcome, but sought to cover such worry with brashness. Then, probably to be cocky about it all, he added the last flurry. From what little she knew of her visitor, such a knock described him to a tee.

Hi peeps,

It’s that time again! Six Sentence Sunday is upon us once more. Thanks, as always, to the lovely peeps at Six Sentence Sunday, and to all the lovely visitors who leave such wonderful comments. You guys rock!

This week, I thought I’d post something from that short story I was writing, tentatively entitled “Glory Box”. Check it out!

“I come here every night, and I want—Christ, I look at you on that stage and I just want to hold you, to feel you next to me and know that neither of us are alone.”

Running a hand through his tousled hair, he laughed, and it was a harsh, bitter sound. “Stupid, right? So tonight, when you beckoned to me with that wicked smile, I was going to take only what you gave and be content with that, but then you asked—” He exhaled, and his look turned rueful and despairing and self-depricating all at once. “You asked me what I wanted—and I want you.”

Thanks for stopping by, peeps!

She hated this feeling. This uncertainty. Why him? Out of all the men, why did he matter so much?

And she knew the answer was simple, and pointless, and frustrating, and true.

Because he did.

Six Sentence Sunday – Silk pt 6

UPDATED: Six Sentence Sunday is here! Thanks to the lovely Six Sentence Sunday people, and all those who visit and comment.

First up, sorry for the break in transmission, peeps, I don’t know where my brain was at. The lure of those cocktails must have been strong. However, now I’m back and here’s six sentences from Silk!

Slowly, hesitantly, his lips met hers, brushed once, twice.

Pleasure rushed through her, sharp and bright. Never had it been like this. All the boys she’d kissed, the men she’d teased, none had made her feel as she did now. Emotion swelled, until it felt her heart was too large for her chest and would encompass all of her, occupy her totally with this feeling for him. For Thomas.

Thanks, peeps! I promise next week I’ll be on the ball 😀

=========================================================================================

Six Sentence Sunday – Silk pt 5

Six Sentence Sunday is upon us once more! Thanks, as always to the lovely peeps at Six Sentence Sunday for this awesome initiative. Thanks also to all of you who comment, it’s such a pleasure to read your words 😀

Some sad news first, the lovely peeps at Six Sentence Sunday have decided to call it a day. The last official Six Sentence Sunday will be 27 January 2013, so, that’s plenty of time for us to get used to the idea that after that date, there will be no official Six Sentence Sunday. I would like to extend a big thank you to the all the Six Sentence Sunday peeps. It has and continues to be a wonderful initiative, and I’m very proud to have been a part of it.

Now, back to Silk. Thomas and  Nicola are studying one of Thomas’s defence cases together…

She turned her gaze from the papers before her to the man beside her.

Thomas looked at her, his thumb pressed against a smile.

Brows drawing together, she said, “Was there something, Thomas?”

Removing his thumb from his lips left only his smile. “You’re rather adorable when you concentrate.”

Heat flared in her cheeks and, quickly, she looked down at the paper.
