Ever curious, Elizabeth, Viscountess Rocksley, has turned her curiosity to erotic pleasure. Three years a widow, she boldly employs the madam of a brothel for guidance but never had she expected her education to be conducted by a coldly handsome peer of the realm.

To the Earl of Malvern, the erotic tutelage of a skittish widow is little more than sport, however the woman he teaches is far from the mouse he expects. With her sly humor and insistent joy, Elizabeth obliterates all his expectations and he, unwillingly fascinated, can’t prevent his fall.

Each more intrigued than they are willing to admit, Elizabeth and Malvern embark upon a tutelage that will challenge them, change them, come to mean everything to them…until a heartbreaking betrayal threatens to tear them apart forever.

~Excerpt~

She told herself a woman was entitled to change her mind and that going to Nate’s room close to midnight didn’t make her slutty. Some of the things she wanted to do to him once she got there might qualify her for the designation, but that would be between them. God, it had been so long since she’d had sex she was practically wet just thinking about making out with him.

She barreled into the building since the door was conveniently propped open, but then stopped. She didn’t know which room he was assigned to. She’d meant to get his phone number, but had been so flustered by the kiss it had slipped her mind.

Oh well, she’d have to do this the old-fashioned way.

“Nate!” she called in a fairly loud voice as she trailed through the first-floor hallway. “Nate!”

The hallway was dead quiet, so he was either ignoring her or the floor’s occupants were very sound sleepers. They were probably all at the party in Ashworth 10.

She climbed to the second floor, calling his name, feeling slightly foolish, but also pretty horny, which was more important.

“Nate!”

A woman came out of the bathroom and looked startled when Emma rushed up to her.

“Hey, do know what room Nate Hirsch is in, by any chance?”

“Um, no, sorry,” she said, then scurried back to her room on the opposite side of the hall.

Emma wasn’t giving up so easily and again called, “Nate!” She was about to climb the stairs to the top floor of the building when the door of the corner room opened and Nate stuck out his head.

“Emma?”

“Nate.” She rushed up to him, relishing the confused but cute smile on his face and the crinkles it formed around his eyes.

“What’s going on?”

“I’m an idiot. I thought it would be taking things too fast, but we’ve known each other forever. Plus, there’s a rager going on right outside my room, and I’d rather get no sleep this way.” She planted an open-mouthed kiss on him that had them both stumbling backward into his room. The door clanged shut behind them; Emma paid no attention to anything except the fierceness with which Nate’s arms clamped around her, holding her to him as if for dear life.

Sneak peak of SILK & SCARS, The Silk Series Book 3

We’re deep in edits for SILK & SCARS and I’m so excited to share with you Gwen and Edward’s story. There’ll be a Cover Reveal next week, so make sure you stop by to see the GORGEOUS cover.

However, while we wait for the reveal, I’d like to share with you all a snippet. Here, Gwen meets Edward for the first time in person:

==============================

Passing through the door, Gwen stopped and, jaw slack, she looked about the chamber. The room was huge, cavernous even, and dark. So dark. Lit only by the flame of the massive fireplace dominating one wall and the wan flicker of a lamp seated on the enormous desk, the light picked up rows upon rows of books while heavy drapes of an unidentifiable fabric covered what she could only presume were windows. The floor was the same stone as the hall, the only carpet appearing before the fire under the clawed feet of a large armchair.

Her gaze returned to the fireplace. A man stood before it, his back to her, right hand held by his left.

Her heart, already racing, started a wild thud against her ribs. That was him. The duke. Edward.

He did not turn, though she willed him to. Willed him to turn, so she could utter that most important of phrases, the one she’d longed to say for an age now.

Hello, Edward.

~ Excerpt ~

When the glide arrived at her stop, she stepped off with a swell of other riders. She crossed the asphalt road, once used for gas-powered vehicles, and took a deep breath. I’m finally home. Sliding her card to gain access to the secure building, her heart raced in anticipation. She needed to be with Erik, find out the truth, and reunite with the man she loved. However, her apartment door didn’t open.

“Access denied,” the robotic female voice rang out.

What? She tried again with the same result. Sliding the card faster or slower didn’t make a difference. She couldn’t get into her apartment building.

“Please vacate the area. Authorities have been notified.”

Calla’s stomach twisted. Her throat tightened. Was this Malock’s doing?

She pulled out her communicator and contacted the building manager. “Taylor, it’s Calla Jacobs. My card won’t work in the reader. Can you please open the door for me?”

He grimaced at her. “I’m sorry, Jacobs, but I’m under strict orders not to let you into the building. Your apartment has already been assigned to another employee, and your belongings were taken a week ago to Planet Core.” He disconnected, leaving her to stare at a blank screen.

A week ago? Malock had planned her demise before she’d even left for Airondelle? Tears threatened to fall. She wiped them away. With PC cameras all over the city, she imagined he watched her and laughed. She stood tall, not letting him get to her.

Although she had no possessions, no place to live, she could still live a happy life with Erik. But where was he if not at her apartment? After they’d decided to return to being friends, he’d moved to Planet Core claiming she would be too much of a temptation for him if they continued living together.

She dialed his communicator, hoping he’d be nearby. When he failed to answer, not once, but five times within ten minutes, Calla lost hope. Malock had ruined her as he’d threatened. She had nothing left. Her only option was to return home to her parents. A glide could get her there by nightfall.

She squashed that irrational thought. No! She’d rather live in the rumored underground cities than go crawling back to the two people who’d admitted they’d only had her to gain status in the business world. She couldn’t go back there. She’d rather take her chances and return to Planet Core.

Sirens hauled her back from her thoughts. A police hover bike flew past her and ground to a halt. Glancing in her direction, the officer pointed at her.

I haven’t done anything wrong!

When the bike circled toward her, she ran—her first instinct. Malock knew too many people, and he’d reminded his recruits every day when he’d dropped in on their training. She hadn’t realized how those words would affect her until now.

The siren on the bike screamed behind her. She motioned to cross at the intersection where people and hover vehicles waited for the lights to change. But instead, she spun around the corner, hoping to throw off the officer. She peered over her shoulder to see if the bike followed her, and smacked into what felt like a brick wall. Landing on her ass, she stared up at the mountain of a man before her.

The guard from Planet Core.

She crab-walked backward across the concrete sidewalk. Hopping onto her feet, she fled back onto the main street. She traveled the way she’d come, unsure if anywhere would be safe. No one could escape the cameras.

Hurrying past her building, she spotted the hover bike reflected in its dark glass walls. The siren had been turned off, and the officer was almost on her. She scanned her surroundings for an escape route. Similar glass buildings lined the next few blocks, all owned by Planet Core. She couldn’t get into any of them now, and there was no place she could hide.

Her lungs ached from running. Maybe she should surrender. What then? I’ll be killed.

“Stop!” The officer on the bike rocketed in front of her.

At the same time, something grabbed her arm and yanked her into darkness. A cloth slammed over her mouth, muffling her cry. Shit! Things just went from bad to worse.

Revenants and swords and barbarians, oh my

One of my very favourite authors is Meljean Brook. I love her stories with a fiery passion, and the lady herself is hysterical. Check out her blog and tell me she is not funny as. Go on. I’ll wait.

So, I picked up Meljean’s* latest effort, “The Beast of Blackmoor“, part of the Night Shift anthology and fell in love. It’s a story about barbarians. With blood! And guts! And really hot smexing fun times!

Beginning a new series, “The Beast of Blackmoor” tells the tale of barbarian warrior lady Mala and barbarian warrior man Kavik. Sent on a quest to honour the goddess Vela, Mala must tame the Beast of Blackmoor or be shunned and reviled by all. Wrapped in the red cloak of her quest, she has ventured a year or more to fulfill Vela’s will.

Years ago, Kavik begged the goddess for the power to destroy the brutal invader of his country, but her refusal led to fury and an unwise course. Offended, the goddess cursed Kavik and he now lives in fear of the woman in the red cloak…

This story is so super cool. Meljean Brook does strong, complex heroes totally gone for the heroine so fricking well, and her heroines are badass, brave and clever and capable and just the sauce that is awesome. This story is no different. Mala has such joy, and she doesn’t allow Kavik’s very rough edges to discourage her. In fact, they kinda turn her on. Kavik pretends like he doesn’t care for Mala, but he’s gone for her from the beginning, and as well as loving her, he admires her tremendously. I can’t tell you how sexy I find that, peeps 🙂

I can’t wait for the next story in the series. I’m sure it will be barbari-tastic <--see what I did there??? Check it out at Amazon, Book Depository and Meljean’s site.

* oh, should probably mention Meljean is writing under the name Milla Vane for this series. Check out her site here –> millavane.com

Writing, writing, writing…

So, I’m all fired and raring to go with the writing. I’ve got three series on the go at varying stages: First up, there’s the Diamond Series, my Old Timey Westerns. The last book in the series, EMERALD SEA, is kicking my behind. It’s not coming together as easily as I’d like (when do they, Cassandra asks herself ruefully). The heroine, Hope, hasn’t changed much but I’ve changed my mind on who the hero, Jake, is. Even his name has changed, from the eloquent and biblical Jacob to the more decisive derivative, Jake. (As an aside, I’ve kind of kicked myself with this, as generic action heroes are always named John or Jack or Jake – check out any action movie of the last twenty years. You won’t find a Paul or Daniel amongst them. But…completely off topic). The plot has changed slightly to incorporate this new version of Jake, but I’m still having issues with the flow. Oh wells, it will come. Much like Christmas.

The Silk Series is steaming away like nobody’s business. SILK & SCARS, the third in the series, is with my editor and will be released in the first half of this year. SILK & SCHOLAR, the next in the series, is bubbling away nicely and I’m really enjoying Etta and Christopher’s shenanigans. Oh my, but Christopher loves to niggle Etta. Tis a thing of beauty.

The third series is brand new and in early concept stages – THE CHARRINGTON SISTERS. Based around three sisters venturing into the marriage mart in Regency London, this series will see me finally writing my regencies! Only took me what, nine or ten books? Well done, Cassandra.

Right, well I guess I better get back to it. These books aren’t going to write themselves (unfortunately).

Hey peeps,

Welcome to the Christmas Wonder Giveaway Hop! Big thanks go to The Herd Hops for hosting. There’s a giveaway below, so make sure you scroll to the end.

What am I looking forward to this holiday season? The annual leave! I’m REALLY looking forward to the break from the day job, two glorious weeks where I can sleep in, mess about with family and friends, and just generally be a great big sloth. Ah. Sounds like bliss!

I’m also looking forward to all the Christmas decorations. In South Australia, we have the Christmas Pageant the first Saturday of November, which signifies the official beginning of the Christmas season. Most people put their decorations up after the Pageant…but not us. Sigh. My sister’s birthday is at the end of November and, growing up, we weren’t allowed to put the decorations up until after her big day. Man, how sucky, right?? Such a diva 😉 Now that we’re grown, the habits of childhood still have a strong hold and I can’t put my decorations up until after her birthday. So I’m really looking forward to that!

But now, on with books that are on my wishlist. I’m quite desperate for the next in Kelley Armstrong’s Cainsville series, Deceptions. Alas, I’ll have to wait until the second half of next year for this one. I’m also looking forward to Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews and Meljean Brook’s new book under her pen name, Milla Vane.

What are you peeps looking forward to?

~ Excerpt ~

The discordant note of a missed strike sounded rose from the coffin, followed by a terse mutter. By the Maiden, was the princess cursing?

A sudden, terrible thought occurred. Was it the princess? Surely she wouldn’t curse as if she were a dockworker Maybe it was his source had lied about the gear worker being the lost princess. Maybe this wasn’t her at all, and he would spend another three months trying to find the erstwhile royal.

No. If it killed him, this would be her. He was not going to waste any more time on this.

So decided, he intoned, “Princess,” in the clear, strong voice he used to quell conversation.
The woman in the coffin—the princess, damn his eyes—started, and a loud clang split the air, immediately followed by one of those deliciously vulgar curses. Pulling out of the coffin, she glared at him.

His breath strangled in his throat. Heat stormed through him, his cock hardening in his too-thin breeches.

Thrice-damned god, but she was arresting.

Wild ebony hair escaped from the band holding it back while furious black eyes pilloried him, full lips pursed in displeasure. Her worker’s clothes revealed more of her form than they should, the homespun shirt opened to the middle of her breast bone. The undyed fabric seemed too rough for such fine skin, the dull, off-white hue a contrast with her dusky flesh. The brown leather harness of her trade nipped in her waist and cupped her breasts, while trousers outlined full hips and long legs, the latter encased in knee-high boots of soft brown leather capped with steel.

Quite insanely, he wanted to taste the damp skin revealed by her shirt.

“What do you think you’re doing?” she demanded.

She had to be the princess. Only royalty could deal such a stare.

“Doing?” he said.

She folded her arms beneath her breasts. He tried not to notice how her action plumped her flesh deliciously through the leather. “Do not come into a workroom and startle a gear worker, especially if she’s wielding tools that could harm her, the object she works on, and your fat head once she recovers herself.”

“My apologies, Princess.” He offered his most charming smile and ignored how the darkening of her scowl made him harder. “I am the Tailor, and I have been sent to fetch you home.”
